About the project

Cre8te’s Business Incubator Project was set up by Cre8te in June 2001.  It provides specialist advice and support to individuals looking to start up in business and existing businesses, which traditionally have not approached mainstream business advice services.  Its services are tailored to the specific needs of its clients, the vast majority of whom require additional support to get their businesses off the ground.

Based in the Craigmillar area in the East of Edinburgh, Cre8te has specialised in nurturing enterprise in a very difficult neighbourhood – where worklessness is endemic and there is intense social and economic deprivation.  We have also focussed our attention on under-represented groups, including support for long term unemStart Your Own Businessployed, individuals with mental health issues and addictions, females and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) entrepreneurs.

What sets the project apart from traditional and mainstream business support services is its provision of intensive support at the pre-start and aftercare stages.  Cre8te’s  more “hands on” approach where there is “face to face” contact over a prolonged period of time with clients builds up trust, gives added reassurance and guidance, and is absolutely crucial in increasing the success rate of business start-ups in areas of regeneration.

Did You Know

  • Over 90% of our self-employed clients were previously unemployed

  • For every £1 we invest in our business support project, the social return on investment created by our start-ups is staggering £13.26
  • Our free business support project has won multiple awards and is recognised as a model of best practice according to an independent Europe wide study
